Cut Edge Corrosion Treatment With Lapsil Sealed Joints

This is a cut edge corrosion treatment carried out by HRC Construction Ltd in 2024. In this case, the client requested that the mid-lap joints were sealed using Lapsil, Liquasil’s system-compatible silicone sealant.

All cut edges were first prepared to ST3 standard, which means they were taken back to bare metal and then primed using SWT Primer.

The primer is a highly flexible epoxy product, designed to prevent further rusting through the surface.

The Lapsil sealant was then applied to the mid-lap joints and overcoated with Flexlap, the highly flexible and self-levelling silicone top-coat.

Liquasil does not recommend sealing mid-lap joints when treating cut edge corrosion as it can lead to moisture becoming trapped between the roof sheets, causing underside corrosion, which cannot be effectively treated.

Consequently, unless water ingress is suspected at the mid-laps, or if the sheets have become perforated, only the uppermost sheets at the mid-lap points should be treated.
