Metal Roof Coating Goosewing Grey
This is a project completed in Staffordshire during 2013. The original roof and cladding was brown, but the client requested a Goosewing Grey finish.
The original finish was delaminating badly and the roof was affected by cut edge corrosion throughout. Therefore, the preparation involved removing the existing finish to the roof sheets using high powered jet wash equipment.
The cut edges were treated prior to receiving two coats of Metalseal, with the main areas of the roof receiving a single coat, to provide at least 25 years protection to the steel substrate.
Images Before Roof Coating Commenced
Working with a surveying practice, Liquasil’s surveyors attended site to conduct a roof survey on all of the units on this industrial estate.
The roofs were in poor condition after suffering from a lack of maintenance for many years.
All of the roofs were suffering from a complete loss of the original factory finish as well as experiencing severe cut edge corrosion that was rotting the sheet ends away at the mid-laps. Additionally, no seals were present between the overlapping roof sheets, at the ridge and at the join between the curved eaves and the vertical cladding.
Liquasil’s specification called for
- Removal of the factory finish residue throughout
- Removal of historic liquid repairs, including an historic cut edge corrosion treatment present on several of the roofs
- Treatment of spot corrosion with liquasil’s SWT corrosion primer
- Taping and re-sealing of horizontal mid-lap joints using Liquasil’s HP Butyl Tape
Completed Roof Coating Project
This metal roof coating project was completed by Prestec Ltd during 2023. In addition to all of the estate roofs being coated with Liquasil’s metal roof coating, Metalseal 20, the vertical cladding was coated with Liquasil’s dedicated cladding paint, Cladcoat.
The colour used on thisestate was Goosewing Grey. Liquasil can manufacture any of our roof or cladding coatings in any RAL colour.
By involving Liquasil right at the start of the project, the contract administrator was able to identify all of the adverse conditions on the roofs and account for them in the roof coating specification.
This resulted in all of the companies tendering for the works to price their tenders more accurately, without the need for extra/over coats and excessive contingenies.
