Do You Need BBA Approval?

BBA or Not BBA – It’s Your Choice

When it comes to specifying a roof coating, do you actually need to be using a BBA Approved product?

As a manufacturer, we provide BBA approved products to give specifiers the reassurance that only comes with independent and unbiased testing.

If you’re not familiar with the process, it takes up to two years of testing to gain initial approval from BBA.

From then, twice annual manufacturing audits are conducted to ensure that the manufacturing processes remain consistent.

The cost involved in gaining BBA Approval is significant, as are the on-going fees and charges. Then there is the time investment, which again, can be considerable.

As you would expect, these costs are built in to the prices of the certified products.

But do you always need to use a certified product?

There might be instances where cost becomes the overriding consideration for your client.

Their view might be that they just want to bring their roof into repair prior to handing it back to their landlord at lease end, so why spend more than they need to?

A professional specifier will want to ensure that they have done their own due diligence and to a large extent, BBA Approval provides that reassurance, but of course, the overriding consideration will be to satisfy your client’s requirement.

In those situations where budget is key, how do you select a product that will fit the bill without it coming back to bite you at some point in the future?

To answer this, Liquasil has introduced Liquasil Lite, a roof coating for metal and asbestos cement roofs, based on our proven silicone technology.

Liquasil Lite is a budget offering. It has not gone through the BBA testing process, but is manufacturered to the same exacting standards as our other products.

What’s more, it has been tested to BRoofT4 fire standard and comes with a 15 year product warranty, without the need for approved installer application or site audits.

All of this keeps costs low, so that even the most budget-conscious client can be satisifed.

A protective roof coating is not the same as waterproofing a roof. A waterproofing system is usually designed for flat roof application and a protective coating is typically applied to pitched roofs, such as metal or asbestos cement.
